OpenPGP v2.0 Smartcard Working
As you know from before I was trying to get my new OpenPGP v2.0 smartcard working on my OpenSuSE Linux and Mac OS X laptops. I was having some really strange problems getting all functions to work on with the OmniKey 6121 (ID-000) usb card reader. read more...

Mercurial and TortoiseHG
I've recently switched from Subversion (SVN) to Mercurial for a distributed code respository. I made the decision because I couldn't (and didn't) decide on a dedicated server for code to reside. The dstributed model of Mercurial lends itself well to overcoming this obstacle b/c it eliminates the decision. read more...

NetBSD Upgrade Planning
I've honestly been avoiding it too long, it's time to upgrade my NetBSD Xen host and guests. The upgrade will be a security/maintenance upgrade only going from 5.0.1 to 5.0.2. My main reason for doing this is to hopefully provide stability to 'apoc', the one guest that currently keeps crashing in the middle of the night. However, I believe the reason for the crashes may be tied to using softdeps on one of the filesystem. I know it seems strange but it's the only system change I've made in the last few months. read more...

DSL IP change when phone is used
This is really becoming annoying for me lately. It seems that when I switch over to AT&T DSL from TW Roadrunner Cable I entered a world of phone meets data. Basically whenever I use the phone my PPPoE session bounces and I get a new IP address. OK, not that big a deal except for my DNS info is now screwed and when I work from home it bounces my VPN connection. read more...

Firefox as Default on MacPPC
If you are like me and still running and older Mac with the PPC processor you've probably upgraded your Adobe FlashPlayer to 10.x and now realize surfing the internet is extremely painful (to say the least) when flash content is involved. read more...
No Luck - OpenPGP SmartCard v2.0
Well, I received the OpenPGP v2.0 Smartcard from kernelconcepts Friday and have been fighting with getting it working on either my MAC or OpenSuSE Linux laptops since. I'll be honest, the issues seem not to be associated with the card but rather the reader, pcsc library and/or gnupg tools. read more...

OpenPGP SmartCard
So after purchasing the USB smartcard reader which came with a ID-000 sized smart card I've been made aware that GnuPG doesn't support the card that came with this reader. It appears the card may only be supported by Microsoft as it required a utility to manage it which was only supported by that operating system. read more...

LFS Filesystem is Experimental
I recently added a disk to my Netbsd Xen system to as I was running out of space on the internal server that was collecting syslog messages from my Netscreen firewall and storing them in a PostgreSQL DB. Seemed like a good time to try a different filesystem, right? read more...
